Coughy Anyone?

Nasty business.

The snot goblins are playing merry hell at our house.

Picture: basykes

All four of the children have a cold. Two are coughing for Britain and two have snot candles to rival those big old church alter candles I see at weddings and funerals (other than that, I don’t have much cause to bother God – much to the dismay of my Irish Catholic mother!!).

The youngest wants to be stuck to a parent all day, which is both lovely and tiresome at the same time. If she’s put down for even a second it’s “Waaaaaaaaaggggghhhhh.”

The mood between the middle two children is completely magnetic, in so much as they are busy repelling each other with the unbridled force of nature.

Shouting has taken over from talking as the preferred means of communication for my eldest boy, and everybody and everything in his life is “stupid”.

I hate this time of year. I might be able to cope with the shouting, the fighting and everything else were it not for the dreaded lurgy. Is that the correct spelling of lurgy?

Typically, Fowler family colds get recirculated and take six fricken weeks to clear. They disturb sleep, disrupt routines and leave us endlessly wondering whether to the bother the family doctor. I say family doctor but actually it’s a collective of conveyor belt practitioners who glean our histories from a computer in the ONE minute slot they have between patients. I don’t know who to feel more sorry for, them or us.

Anyway today we’re celebrating the 2nd birthday of our youngest so I’d better get busy looking busy or my wife will think she goes to work just so that I can have a never ending holiday.

And Thank You to Peter Clemens – whose blog covers topics related to personal growth & self awareness – for leading me to Post Secret. It may help me to offload some of my own secrets. :D

Yeah, the snot goblin is in my house too!
My 3-year-old delights, DELIGHTS, in telling me “I’ve wiped my boogers on your top mummy”. Great.

Ah, sympathies Dave. I’ve had a very heavy cold (aka Man Flu) since Friday and am coughing and sneezing everywhere. My children, who are old enough to make themselves breakfast and a sandwich, are whining that they are ’starving’ and I am sitting on the settee sipping Lemsip and reading blogs. And, I am due back at work tomorrow which as things stand right now is looking optimistic. Happy New Year!

That darn snot goblin is at our house too. He’s obviously found a way to create multiple clones, even across continents. The little shit should be shot! Is it legal to encase our children’s heads in hard, plastic bubbles to stop the spread of germs?

Happy birthday to your youngest, and may you all feel better in much less than six weeks!

Tara,
LMAO, but only because my children think it’s funny to do the same to us and each other. And actually, sometimes it is funny!

notSupermum,
And mine to you. I’ve also been infected but being a brave soldier I don’t feel the need to mention it more than six or seven times an hour. Man flu?? You’ll never survive Man Flu. That’s a serious condition. Best get your affairs in order!
Happy New Year, and enjoy your day off work tomorrow. ;)

Tricia,
“The little shit should be shot!” LMAO
I too hope that six weeks is an overestimate, but I fear it’s unlikely. Good luck with eradicating your own snot goblin.

Thanks Avlor. I’m having big pun today!
The birthday girl is enjoying her afternoon nap while I play silly beggars on the internet. Ah, life is good. :)

When the weather gets cold, it’s time to break out the Vitamin C. :) It seems to keep my kids from getting too sick during the winter months, anyway. And me, too. I love Emergen-C.

GreenJello, you know, I’ve never really believed that stuff works. Maybe that’s why we’ve always got bloody colds!!!

Hi Dave. I’d say get well soon, but it sounds like you’re all having so much fun :-) Those snot goblins do sound nasty though…hope the birthday celebrations go well despite them. No boogers on the cake!

Davina, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had the children’s boogers in my mouth and it probably won’t be the last. Inadvertently of course. I don’t exactly go mining for them. :D

I too have snot monsters in my house. Although they get to focus all their energy on just one person. I like to call them alien booger babies. Because it is highly unlikely that one person can create that much snot without someone else implanting it there.

Hiya Melanie,
Snot Goblin – also sounds like something to do. Ewww. :)

Hi MayB,
LOL. That’s a fine theory. I’m going to observe the monsters and look for alien infestation.
Alien Booger Babies is a great description :)
