I was astounded to happen upon an Obama You Lie T-Shirt as I surfed the net today.
I was just looking for some funny T-Shirts (you know, funny ha ha) and found the afore mentioned you lie t-shirts.
I can’t believe that these things have gone into production so quickly.
OK, so you need to know that I’m not political and I’m not making a political point here, I’m simply remarking on the way the machine moves to produce these things so quickly.
I mean, how do they even determine there’s are market for these You Lie shirts? Do people call them up demanding their production?
Do people really buy these things, and if they do, do they wear them in public?
BTW, If you don’t already know, I don’t live in the US, so I don’t really know how things work there.
I can’t imagine anything like this happening where I am.
Sure, slogan t-shirts are seen all over the place where I live but it would be extremely unusual to see political statements being made in this way.
I was already aware of this episode but only vaguely, as I skimmed the newspaper – and if I’ve got this right, the back story is that during President Obama’s healthcare reform speech, Congressman Joe Wilson yelled, “YOU LIE“.
And now there are TShirts. Amazing.
I also caught sight of an article suggesting Wilson’s outburst set a bad example for children, which interested me as I’ve written previously about ‘setting a good example’ on this site.
I don’t know whether this incident is even remotely funny to most Americans, or whether it is being treated very seriously, but honestly, I was amused to find out about the You Lie T-Shirts.
Again folks, not a political comment, not looking to stir up a debate, it’s just that the t-shirts caught my eye and made me want to look out for more ‘unusual’ merchandise.

I think Americans in general are all about the message/slogan t shirt. It’s hard to know how the incident is being taken by most Americans. In my opinion, we’re in some sort of bizarre growing pain phase as a country and half of us are looking at the other half going WTF? On both sides, I’d imagine. I think a lot of us are feeling like many of our fellow citizens thinking processes are totally incomprehensible. And again, I’d imagine this isn’t something the left or right feels exclusively.
Hi Tracy, I’m surprised that someone walking down the street wearing an Obama You Lie t-shirt wouldn’t get punched for their trouble? Surely they run into people with wildly opposing views and the shirt provides the incentive to pick a fight?
Equally someone could wear a Joe Wilson is a tool t-shirt and bring about the same result. So people really wear their politics on their shirt in the States? Wow. Brave.
I sold a ton of those shirts. You may have actually gotten the photo from my site. You’re correct. Most of them are just saying what they think we want to hear and we know it.
